Registration is now open for the inaugural WATA/Nuttall Memorial Hospital Pre-Mother’s Day 5K Road Race set for Saturday, May 11. Interested participants have just under three weeks to sign up before registration closes on Friday, May 3. The organizers have set a goal of $10 million earmarked for the refurbishment and equipment of the Gunter Wing and the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.
The Run scheduled for the day before Mother’s Day will be held under the theme ‘Run for your mother, race for your life’. The event begins at 7 a.m. on the Nuttall Hospital grounds and takes runners to Tom Redcam Avenue, on to Arthur Wint drive, up Mountain View Ave and back on to Old Hope Road ending at the hospital. WATA will provide refreshments to refuel runners along the way.
Harvey Levers, CEO of Nuttall Memorial Hospital underscores the importance of the event. “The private healthcare facilities in Jamaica continue to play an integral role in meeting the high expectations of our very discerning Jamaican public. As a result institutions such as Nuttall must constantly carry out continuous upgrading activities in order to ensure that we meet the demands of our patients and other stakeholders. This event is one route by which we strive to achieve that goal and everyone will agree that it is a cause worthy of receiving tremendous public support,” said Levers.
Race Director Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis of Running Events Jamaica agrees with Mr Levers and is anticipating a good turnout for the event that will benefit the health sector.
“We are pleased to be associated with this run to improve the health sector and we are grateful for the opportunity to encourage persons to improve their personal wellness. We look forward to a great participation from our caring citizens,” said Francis.
Interested persons may register online at www.runningeventja.com, or at the Nuttall Memorial Hospital at a fee of $1,000 per person. Individuals, corporate teams and running groups are encouraged to participate for the upliftment of the Nuttall Hospital.
