Sagicor Life Jamaica has announced its support of the 30th staging of the 2013 JTA/Sagicor National Primary, All Age and Junior High Schools Athletic Championships. The announcement was made during the official launch of the 2013 championships on Tuesday, May 7 held at the Jamaica Teacher’s Association (JTA headquarters).
Ingrid Card, Assistant Vice President, Group Marketing, of Sagicor Life Jamaica said “As a corporate body we continue to improve the lives of our nation’s youth and provide the necessary support to help cultivate their minds through our scholarships; our mentorship programme and sponsorships like the JTA/Sagicor National Athletics Championships.
Since the inception, the meet has propelled many of the nation’s star athletes who have gone on to represent the Jamaica internationally. Records indicate that approximately 75% of Jamaican athletes performing on the national and international scene, within the last two decades are products of the JTA/Sagicor National Primary, All Age and Junior High Schools Athletic Championships.
Alysia Moulton White, Sponsorships and Public Relations Manager of Sagicor Life Jamaica said “We commend the JTA for initiating this meet. They have maintained a high level of organization and dedication, for this, the 30th staging of an athletic event that caters to the primary and secondary levels.”
Some of the athletes who have participated in the championship include Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerron Stewart, Sherone Simpson, Shericka Williams, Aileen Bailey, Bridgette Foster Hylton, Deloreen Ennis London, Nesta Carter, Markino Buckley, Marvin Anderson, Yohan Blake, Bert Cameron and Germaine Mason.
The competition for the National title will also give individual athletes the opportunity to compete for the coveted title of Champion Boy and Champion Girl. They will each receive a trophy and an academic scholarship for their tenure at secondary school courtesy of title sponsor Sagicor.
2012 National Champion Portland will defend its title on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 at the National Stadium when over 1200 athletes from Primary, All Age and Junior High Schools will represent the 14 parishes at the National level.
