The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has commended plans in place for the Suzuki Miss Jamaica World (MJW) 2013 Beauty Pageant. This on the tail end of confirmation from the MJW Committee that millions of people poised to benefit Destination Jamaica will witness the unfolding of the next Miss Jamaica World ambassador by way of a live television feed through Sportmax, transmitted regionally to 25 countries through cable operators in each territory; as well as a live video feed via the Gleaner’s online web portal on Sunday, July 21.
Jason Hall, the Deputy Director of Tourism with responsibility for Cruise, Events and Attractions says “The Jamaica Tourist Board is pleased to endorse the Miss Jamaica World pageant and with its renewed vision and focus, we feel sure the event will provide opportunities for showcasing Destination Jamaica in a positive light.”
On the decision to move the final Coronation Show from Kingston to Montego Bay Laura Butler, MJW Franchise Holder explains how the change will also incorporate local vacationers. “The (MJW) Committee has identified the Montego Convention Centre as the most suitable venue locally that can accommodate the enhanced production elements of this year’s show. We (the MJW Committee) appreciate that this is a vital step in incorporating the wider Jamaica; and we are negotiating transportation to and from Kingston as well as discounted rates with hotels and attractions in and around Montego Bay to ensure that locals can create a weekend getaway by attending the show,” says Butler.
Commenting on the move, Hall says “Taking the Grand Coronation Show to the tourist capital, Montego Bay, will allow more of our visitors to participate. We look forward to the destination ambassadors who will emerge from the pageant.”
Already on the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ mission is Latoya Johnson, winner of the Middlesex finals which took place on Saturday, June 8 at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville. The Cornwall finals will take place this Thursday, June 13 at Pier 1 in Montego Bay. The winner of each region earns an automatic spot in the national pageant.
Entries close Wednesday, June 12 ahead of the elimination show on Saturday, June 15 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The winner of the 2013 pageant will drive home a brand new Suzuki Kizashi valued at J$4.55M among the $15M in cash and prizes.
With ‘Celebrating Brand Jamaica’ as one of the mandates of the 2013 pageant, MJW organisers are thrilled that local talent and designers to be featured on the show will receive much needed international exposure through live global coverage of the production. Local coverage of the Grand Coronation Show will be carried by CVM Television.
