Ky-mani Marley’s latest, Hope Chant premiered worldwide on CVM TV’s Onstage Saturday, November 23. Hope Chant features American Country Music artiste Big Kenny from the duo Big & Rich and debuts Ky-mani’s son, KJ Marley, who delivers a good rap on the track.
Directed by Mykal Cushnie, the video was shot in early November on location in Trench Town and Tuff Gong Studios; two locations very important to the music of Marley.
Showcasing another side of Ky-mani Marley, Hope Chant is the first single from Big Kenny Presents Electro Shine Record to be released in 2014. Hope Chant is an up tempo song, fusing together Techno and Reggae beats.
Electro Shine, brainchild of Big Kenny sees the fusion of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) with Classical Instrumentation.
As a child, Ky-mani had no interest following in the footsteps of his world-famous father and was more inclined to play sports. However, the seed that was planted by Bob’s legacy sprouted in 1997 when Ky-mani teamed up with Hip Hop artiste Pras of The Fugees and collaborated on a cover of Eddy Grant’s Electric Avenue. This would be the defining moment in Ky-mani’s journey which would lead him to pick up the torch his iconic father lit so many years ago.
While working on several projects, the second youngest son of Bob Marley, Ky-mani, has really reinvented himself with this new pop sound.
He is currently working on his new clothing line Konfrontation and focusing on his non-profit organization LOAF (Love Over All Foundation), while relentlessly recording new and exciting material for his upcoming album Evolution of a Revolution that represents a new era of sound. The new recordings will continue to highlight the myriad of Ky-mani’s influences. His new works will prove to be a blend of genres that will touch the inner-soul of each listener.
