It was an exciting start to the 2013 Sagicor UWI Champions League, on Sunday, November 3 at the UWI Mona Bowl, despite inclement weather. Hundreds of students turned out to witness the encounter between defending champions, Attica of Taylor Hall and Block X of Chancellor.
The lone football game provided much drama and excitement as it was a rematch of the first Sagicor UWI Mona Guild Champions league 2011 final and the passion from both teams was evident as they vied for passage to the next round.
The game saw Block X dominating until Attica capitalized, against the run of play, to strike home after a scramble in the Block X defence. With Block X now in search of the equalizer the Atticans tactically switched to a counter-attacking game, and soon found dividends as Block X gifted possession away. With Attica's Oral Johnson scoring in the 60th minute and Dave Morgan in the 75th, Attica was the eventual winner on the night as they were in the 2011 final.
