Sagicor Investments wins big at JSE Awards

Sagicor Investments Jamaica Limited (SIJ), once again did exceptionally well at the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s (JSE) Best Practice Awards on Wednesday, December 4 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

For its performance for the 2012 financial year, SIJ captured five Awards overall.

First Place Awards:
JSE Member-Dealer Revenue Generation & Market Activity
Best Practice Corporate Disclosure & Investor Relations

First Runner-up Awards:
The Company was edged into second place for the highly competitive Best Practice Annual Award – a coveted prize that Sagicor has captured thrice out of the last five years, and was also recognized for its excellent Corporate Governance framework.

The Honourable Percival James Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, presents Donovan Perkins, President & CEO of Sagicor Investments with the company’s first place prize for the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s (JSE) Best Practices Award for Corporate Disclosure & Investor Relations on Wednesday, December 4. Sagicor Investments received five awards at the ceremony held at the Jamaica Pegasus. The JSE rewarded publicly traded companies for sound corporate governance, efficient public disclosure and client relations.


Ingrid Card, Group Marketing Executive at Sagicor was elated at Sagicor’s performance. “We are particularly proud that we ranked highly in the areas of Investor Relations, Corporate Governance and the quality and content of our Annual Report to shareholders.  This reflects how hard we work to communicate not just with our customers, but with our shareholders also.”

The JSE’s annual awards ceremony has been in existence since 2004, with a mandate to underscore the importance and reward sound corporate governance practices amongst publicly traded companies. Great emphasis is also placed on clear and timely public disclosure and maintaining excellent client relations.  The JSE Best Practice winners are selected on guidance and advice from a panel of independent judges comprised of members representing both the private and public sector with expertise covering a wide range of corporate and financial skills. There are currently 60 companies listed on the main and junior markets of the Jamaica Stock Exchange that are eligible to participate in the Annual Awards.
