International Nurses’ Day and National Nurses’ Week highlight the invaluable contribution and commitment of Jamaican nurses to the healthcare sector. In keeping with LASCO’s dedication to support and empower the nation’s nurses, the company joined with the NAJ to stage the LASCO Nurse of the Year Award, putting the spotlight on a nurse who has given outstanding service to the field.
Since 1999, the National Nurse of the Year programme has recognized the contributions of persons within the nursing profession. The Nurse of the Year (NOY) Programme is the recognition of pacesetters within the profession who have displayed high professional, ethical and personal development standards.
Speaking at the launch of Nurses Week on Monday, May 12 at the Knutsford Court Hotel, Peter Chin, Managing Director of LASCO Distributors Ltd., commended the nurses for their unwavering dedication to sustainable healthcare.
“The LASCO family is grateful for the patience, hard work and perseverance our nurses. I have the utmost respect for you and deeply appreciate your contributions. LASCO remains committed to supporting this professional body as we believe in your vision and are very aware of the importance of your role to sustaining our society. The long hours on your feet caring for persons committed to your care, keeps our health sector going,” he said.
The nurses got off to a great start with the Make a Child Smile Easter Bunny Treat held in April. The National Nurses’ Week of activities begins with a church service on July 13 and continues with Summer School and Founder’s Day activities, as well as an Awards Ceremony throughout the week.
