Sagicor Adopt-a-School initiative going STRONG

Hundreds of children across Jamaica continue to benefit through Sagicor Life Jamaica’s six year old Adopt-A-School Programme. Comprising of mentorship and nutrition programmes as well as infrastructure and project financing, the venture, birthed in 2009 surpassed original expectations, and has established itself as one of which Sagicor is extremely proud.

Originally, the initiative was intended to have a life span of five years. However, with the Government’s call to the private sector for assistance in supporting educational institutions, the Adopt-A-School Programme has continued into 2014, and has seen approximately 80 schools benefit as a minimum of one new school is adopted by each of the 13 Sagicor Life branches every calendar year.

Mark Chisholm, Executive Vice president, Individual Insurance Division at Sagicor declared his company’s commitment to the cause. “Education and health are important pillars of our corporate responsibility programme and as such, we continue to uplift schools in the communities we operate. Youth development is achieved through education and so our programmes in the schools seek to improve facilities at the primary level.”

In keeping with the Adopt-A-School effort, the organization’s Labour Day initiative saw Sagicor Life team members, along with other representatives from Sagicor Group Jamaica, volunteering at nine schools across the island.

Shane Cross, Principal of Carl Thompson Basic School was very appreciative of the financial conglomerate’s efforts. “Sagicor is doing a tremendous job in helping early childhood institutions. We are grateful for their help with painting our school and putting up partitions to reduce the noise in the classrooms. This (Early Childhood) is the most critical part of learning and when the community comes together, we can achieve a lot.
