Sagicor boosts workforce with Internship Programme
Twenty five (25) tertiary graduates have successfully transitioned from intern to employee status within the Sagicor Group over a fourteen-month period -September 2013 to October 2014. The Sagicor Internship Programme began in October 2013 and has grown from 16 participants in the first cohort in 2013 to 60 in 2014. The programme was conceptualized with the aim of providing unemployed university graduates an opportunity to not only gain valuable work experience and build confidence but to also make a seamless transition into the workforce.
Karl Williams, Vice President of Group Human Resources at Sagicor Group Jamaica confirms the relevance of the programme based on the symbiotic relationship it affords all parties concerned. “Internship positions are advertised in the media each year; and the universities have been incorporated into the process this year. No work experience is required and all interns receive a weekly stipend to aid in covering meal and transportation expenses. Applicants should possess a Bachelor Degree from a recognised accredited tertiary institution, graduated for less than 2 years, or be enrolled final year Bachelor Degree program.”
