Sigma Run donation drive continues

Sagicor Group continues to invite public donation and pledges to achieve the J$50 million target for this year's Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run. This is the biggest Sigma Run target to date, which generated J$26 million last year. A public donation platform (generosity® by Indiegogo®) has been engaged in an effort to help raise funds for its 2016 beneficiaries.

This year, funds will be distributed to assist with the treatment of Children with Cancer across the Island, the Jamaica Cancer Society, for the purchase of a Mammography Unit, which will be placed on their mobile vehicle, in order to access rural communities to assist breast cancer screening of women. The Black River Hospital Pediatric Unit will be given an arterial blood gas machine to check for severe breathing problems and lung diseases, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as refurbishing to their pediatric Lounge.

Generosity® is the fundraising platform that's free, fast, and open, giving individuals and organizations the power to donate to social causes from anywhere in the world. Donations can be made to the Sigma Run 2016 by logging on to:

"We know Jamaicans in the diaspora are big supporters of the Sigma Run, and by extension Jamaica, so we are relying on them heavily to help raise this ambitious target for vulnerable children of their home nation. We decided to try a new platform for Sigma Run to open an avenue for Jamaicans across the world to lend assistance to these three causes," says Ingrid Card, Vice President of group marketing at Sagicor.

Local donors can make cheques payable to Sigma Run 2016, with deposits at any Sagicor Bank location to Account Number - 5502392157. Deposits may also be made at the National Commercial Bank - Account Number 291012795 and Scotiabank - Account number 11-9911 (Donations lodged to BNS & NCB must say 'donation to Sagicor Sigma Run').

(l-r) Sagicor Group Jamaica's Executive Vice President Mark Chisholm presents a symbolic cheque of $26,048,095 to representatives of the 2015 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run charities: Cornwall Regional Hospital's Consultant Paediatrician Dr Tracey Evans-Gilbert and Jamaica Kidney Kids Foundation's Chairman Dr Mayolynne Miller. The donation from the annual Run exceeded this year's $25M target with just under 24,000 registered participants.

This year the Run will also incorporate a special element, inviting patrons of the Sigma Run to purchase 'I Run For...' balloons, in honour of persons affected by cancer and in memory of those who have lost their battle with the disease. Runners, walkers and wheel chair participants are being invited to honour those who are impacted by the disease with their purchase of this special helium balloon, outfitted with a special name tag for placement of the name of their loved one. At the beginning of the race, these special 'I Run For...' balloons will be ceremoniously released.

Persons who want to purchase an "I Run For..." balloon are asked to contact the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run Secretariat based at the Company's Head Office in Kingston. The Secretariat can be reached at email
 SGJSigmaSecretariat@sagicor.com, by telephone at 936-7831, 936-7843 or 936-7261.

In its 18-year history, the Sigma Run has inspired individuals and groups to sponsor and make donations in addition to registering for the run to further accumulate funds for its charities.

To date, approximately $166 million has been raised for a number of child health-related facilities. Funds raised are used to purchase well-needed equipment and services for the long-term maintenance and strengthening of these institutions.
