The 2018 Everyone’s a Winner The Best Dressed Chicken Road Race “Father’s Day edition” got off to a fast start on today, Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Hope Botanical Gardens with Llori Sharpe and Garfield Gordon securing the top overall female and male titles respectively in the 5K run. Sharpe posted a time of 19:08 to win ahead of Sherona Stewart of UCT Steppas 22:16 and fourth-year medical student at University of the West Indies, Anna Kay Edwards 23:40. Gordon of UCT Steppas returned a time of 15:24 to finish ahead of Kemar Leslie of Rainforest Seafoods, 16:11 and Jerome Kirby of UCT Steppas, 16:15 for second and third respectively. The race was the second event of the two-part Everyone’s A Winner series.
In the day’s other events, Oshane Archibald of UCT Steppas retained his title with an impressive final 200m to take home the 10K title in a time of 34:05, only 11 seconds faster than second placed, Ryon Chambers 34:16. Henry Thomas of UCT Steppas was third in 35:44. Jozanne Harris of Jamdammers also made a big improvement from her 2017 non podium finish in 48:19 to take the pole position in the female 10K in 47:16. Janetta Robinson of Pacers Running Club finished in second place in a time of 48:10 with Pauline Murphy of Jamdammers staying close to her teammate to obtain third, in 48:59.
Newcomer, Anna-Kay Swaby of Shizzlefit surprised the field of competition taking home the female 5K Walk title with an impressive 31:02 to finish ahead of favourite, Paula Sinclair of UCT Steppas, who came in second with 31:52. Shanessa Hall of NCU 91FM clocked 34:50 to secure third place. Duwell “The walking tiger” Allen secured the Male Walk title in 24:56, with Lenworth Hunter and O’Shea Morgan of Shizzlefit taking home second and third with times of 27:55 and 28:33 respectively.
In the Jamaica Moves Top VIP (Visually Impaired Person) categories, 14-year-old Nicola Anderson was the victorious female winner, while 18 year old Michael Thompson came out on top amongst the males; both winners hailed from the Salvation Army School for the Blind.
UCT Steppas copped both the 10K and 5K Run Team Championship; while Rainforest Seafoods walked away with the award for largest participating team.
In the spirit of Father’s Day, 27 kids, ages 9 and under, were able to register and run a 1K with their parents by their sides if necessary. 8 year old Zhana Wright topped the field for the young girls and 9 year old Miles Hanna placed first among the young boys.
Strollers were also out in numbers, leaving participating father, Richard McLeggan happy with a first place male finish in a time of 22:53; while participating mother, Karen Parsard pushed her way to a fabulous win among her female peers in a time of 18:48.
Last but not least, UCT Steppas copped the inaugural Roy Thomas 10K Club Championship Trophy with 20 points over both races. Pacers Running Club came close with 18 points for second place and Jamdammers third with 16 points.
Nevertheless, everyone’s a winner; and the first 2,000 finishers across all the race events received a medal at today’s event.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the iconic Hope Gardens, Running Events Limited with The Best Dressed Chicken seek to raise funds for the Diabetes Association of Jamaica (DAJ) through the Everyone’s A Winner The Best Dressed Chicken 5K & 10K Road Race, as they help the DAJ to increase their capabilities and level of care, with new and necessary life saving equipment.
This is eighth staging of the race.
